Asmalyks were made in pairs by the young bride as part of her dowry. They symbolised power and fertility and were presented to the bridegroom at the wedding ceremony and hung in the wedding yurt for their entire lives. This Asmalyk dates to the early-mid 19th century and, although a bit battered, retains its dramatic appearance.
