antique baluch tribal rug khorassan northeast persia

Antique Baluch Tribal Rug, Khorassan, North-East Persia

Item Ref

This beautiful mint condition Baluch rug of the last quarter 19th century was made in the Khorassan region of north-east Persia. The drawing of the design is superb with the central lozenges containing stylised cockerels - symbolising the harbinger of the day, dispeller of the night. Note the knotted-pile skirts at each end with minimal but important use of yellow and the depiction of small stylised 'cats' or 'lions' in the top and bottom main border. A truly fabulous rug!
Size: 1.96m x 1.00m (6' 5" x 3' 3")
Viewing by appointment only.
