Antique Prayer-Rug, Baluch Tribes, Persian/Afghan Borderlands

Item Ref

Here we see a rare, tiny prayer-rug, made by Baluch nomads on the borderlands of north-eastern Persia and north-western Afghanistan during the third quarter of the 19th century.
The field is knotted in natural camel-hair and comprises a 'tree-of-life' surrounded by stylised quadrupeds. This is an archaic little rug and utterly charming in every way.
Size: 91cm x 66cm (3' 0" x 2' 2").
Viewing by appointment only.
Internal Ref: BM1108
