Antique Baluch Tribal Rug, Khorassan Province, North-East Persia

Item Ref

Amongst my favourite Baluch rugs are those with a glowing vegetable indigo-blue field and madder-red main border. Sadly, they are few and far between. But here, just acquired, is such a fabulous example showing the blues and reds that make Baluch rugs the very best of type.
This rug from around 1880 is in excellent pile - soft, lustrous, glossy wool and a field rendition of the 'mina khani' or nectar blossom design - famous in the Baluch weavings of Khorassan, north-east Persia. The original brocaded skirts remain intact at both ends.
Size: 1.84m x 0.91m (6' x 3').
Viewing by appointment only.
Internal Ref: BM1237
