Found in Iran, this truly superb ceremonial saddle-cover was made by Afshar nomads in Kerman province, south Persia, during the first period of the 20th century. The cut-out section is for the cantle, with decorative tassels intended to hang down at the back side of the saddle. The main section, all in lustrous, glossy vegetable-dye wool, depicts a myriad of seated camels on an indigo-blue background. Mint condition!
