A good early rug of the Teke Turkmen tribes, made in the Merv Oasis around 1860-1870.
The madder-red ground contains 3 vertical rows of 6 nicely rounded Teke 'guls' (tribal crests) and has a warm, glowing appeal. The 'elems' (skirts) are complete at each end and overall, the rug is in very good condition bar some tiny repairs in various places, expected in a rug of this age.
Size: 1.65m x 1.35m (5' 5" x 4' 5").
