Antique Luri Rug, Hayat Davoodi Tribes, Luristan, Western Persia.

Item Ref

Made in the region of Schull by Hayat Davoodi weavers around 1880-1900, this charming rug incorporates human and animal figures, suggestive of the idiosyncratic zoomorphic stylization from these Luri people. Note in the close-up photos, the depiction of a male and female standing together and in other photos, various human forms, as well as quadrupeds, scattered throughout the field of the rug. The colour palette is indigenous of the Hayat Davoodi people and the rug, with its attractive skirts, is in very good overall condition with an original, short-cropped pile.
Just acquired from a private collection where the rug was found in Iran in the 1950s.
Size: 2.28m x 1.12m (7' 6" x 3' 8").
Viewing by appointment only.
Internal Ref: RPD18
