Just magnificent!
Woven on a narrow loom in two halves and then expertly sewn together, the soumak work in this flatweave is incredible. I have just acquired it from an English couple who acquired this flatweave in Iran in the 1950s whilst stationed out there. The flat-weave was made by Timuri - Yaqoub Khani nomads in the borderlands of eastern Persia and western Afghanistan around 1870 and would have been used as a tent floor covering. It really has to be seen to appreciate the extremely fine soumak weaving, but take my word for it if you will, it is fantastic!
Size: 2.60m x 1.50m (8' 6" x 5' 0").
Viewing by appointment only.
