Description

Just in from Iran and from the family of a late Kashkuli Khan, this rare pair of 'masnads' ( seating rugs), are finely knotted with the 'moharamat' pattern of tiny, stylised botehs. Made during the last quarter of the nineteenth century, these masnads are complete around the outside, with corded tassels symbolising good luck. The beautiful natural colours in shades of red, turquoise, dark and light blue, golden yellow and ivory are exceptional. Look closely at the masnad on the right to see the extra vertical ivory border containing tiny '5s' - symbols of protection. This border can only be seen in one of the masnads.
Both masnads are in complete, excellent condition and are highly collectable pieces.
Sizes: 56cm x 51cm (1' 10" x 1' 8") each.
Viewing by appointment only.
Internal Ref: BM/Masnads
