Description
This is a most unusual and rare little rug, made by Afshar Tribes in Kerman Province, southern Persia circa 1880. The stunning indigo-blue ground contains two vertical rows of four 'guls' (tribal crests) and within each of these guls are two zoomorphic bird-like creatures, facing each other. The minor inner and outer borders contain small stylised camels - a design often seen used in early Afshar weavings.
What is particularly attractive and powerful is the ivory main border with an early cartouche design.
This beautiful little rug is in excellent condition.
