Description
Very finely knotted and in very good condition, this beautiful 'chuval' (storage bag-face) was made by Yomut Turkmen in the trans-Caspian steppes around 1880.
Originally made in pairs to contain bedding, pots and personal possessions, chuvals were tied to each flank of the camel during migration and stored flat in the tent during sedentary periods.
