Description
This beautiful little vanity-bag - 'chanteh' in Persian -was woven by Shahsevan nomads in Azerbaijan around 1900,
The face of the bag is woven in a technique known as overlay/underlay brocade on a balanced weave ground. The back has a madder-red plain-weave ground with the overlay/underlay technique in horizontal bands. The bag is in very good complete condition albeit with slight wear in the lower part, due to its original use in tribal life.
This is an exceptional small vanity-bag which would grace any collection, even allowing for the slight wear.
