Description

The Lakai Uzbek tribes were semi-nomadic and noted for their horse-breeding. They were fiercely independent and often sent plundering raids on their neighbours! They occupied what is now southern Uzbekistan and their fabulous silk embroideries reflect their shamanistic roots. The symbolic motifs of swirling disks, spirals and stylised scorpions and spiders have a primal quality about them and they exude a magical energy.
This magnificent 'uuk kap ilgich' dates to the last quarter of the nineteenth century and has silk embroidery on a red cotton and blue velvet background. The trim is in applied silk cross-stitch with purple silk backing and long silk tassels. A truly beautiful embroidery.
Size: 50cm x 25cm (1' 8" x 10") excluding tassels.
Viewing by appointment only.
