Description
A very rare animal cover incorporating a knotted-pile 'tree-of-life' rising upwards on an ivory, plain-weave ground and surrounded by stylised quadrupeds and birds, also in knotted-pile.
Surrounding the ivory plain-weave ground is a knotted-pile border together with an extra, large, knotted-pile panel at the base.
Made by Kurdish tribes in the environs of Kelardasht in north-western Persia during the last quarter of the nineteenth century, the cover is in remarkably very good condition, with lustrous,, natural-dye, glossy wool.
This is a rare and very collectible cover which would make a stunning wall-hanging.
