Description

Rugs of the Bahluli 'Baluch' tribe are recognised by their symmetric-knotting whereas most other tribes in the 'Baluch' tradition, are asymmetrically-knotted.
This rug, made during the last quarter of the nineteenth century by the Bahluli tribe in the region of Qaienat, Khorassan province, eastern Persia, comprises a field of stylised leaves. The main border has a powerful rendition of tribal motifs and the rug is complete with chevron skirts in knotted-pile as opposed to flat-weave technique. Particularly attractive, are the highlights of a natural, light-blue throughout.
The rug is in very good overall condition, albeit with some areas of corroded brown dye, due to the iron mordant effect.
Size: 1.55m x 0.89m (5' 1" x 3' 0").
Viewing by appointment only.
