Description
This magnificent bag, woven by tribes within the Khamseh Confederacy in Fars, south-western Persia, was undoubtedly made for containing either wooden spoons, water-pipes or wooden spindles. The quality of the soumak weaving technique on the face indicates it was made by a weaver at the height of her profession and a highly-prized little bag. The bag is complete with madder-red, plain-weave back, showing abrash where the weaver used different shades of colour and decorated with tassels on the face.
