Description
I suspect the face of this charming bag which I have illustrated as the main photo, is the back of the bag and the face with the tassels would have been the front? Nevertheless, I find the face with the possible 'dancing ladies' as the most charming! Note how the bottom and top three are dancing left and the middle three are dancing right!At wedding ceremonies, tribal women and girls perform, in a circle, a dance referred to as the 'feather dance' and this is maybe what is being depicted here.
Woven by a woman of the Darrehshuri Qashqa'i tribes circa 1900, the bag would have been woven to contain wooden spoons, wooden drop-spindles and water-pipes and is decorated with a wonderful display of tassels.
