Description
It's not often a nineteenth century tobacco-bag appears on the market, but this one appeared recently, described as a vanity-bag! However, on its arrival, I realised it wasn't a vanity-bag but a stunning little tobacco-bag. I was thrilled to acquire it as I've never had one this good!
It was made by Khamseh Confederacy nomads in Fars Province, south-west Persia during the last quarter nineteenth century and is in excellent condition. The long neck folds over the face of the bag and the long braided cord is then wrapped around the bag keeping the precious tobacco secure.
Woven in weft-substitution technique with weft-faced plain-weave technique, the attached photos show the bag opened and closed.
A rare and charming bag of which few exist now.
