Description
This exceptional namakdan (salt-bag) was woven circa 1900 by Afshar tribes in Kerman Province, southern Persia.
Originally found in a 'bokcha' (dowry chest) in Iran, this fabulous salt-bag is in amazing condition for its age and might never have been used but instead, kept as a highly-prized dowry weaving. Woven in one complete piece, cut from the loom, folded in half and the sides sewn up, for this reason, the stylised birds and quadrupeds on the back side are upsides-down! A very collectable namakdan.
Size: 63cm x 40cm (2' 1" x 1' 4").
Viewing by appointment only.
