Description
Just in from Iran, this beautiful namakdan (salt-bag) is woven in soumak technique on the face with narrow, horizontal bands of different colours in plain-weave on the back. The base of the bag is in typical Lori-Bakhtiari lustrous knotted-pile, in order to give resilience and provide long, hard wear.
The design on the face comprises stylised flowers with the border in alternate 'fives' or quincunx, symbols of protection.
The namakdan is in excellent original condition with the sides overbound in strong goat-hair and complete tassels emanating from the neck, used for carrying the bag.
