Description
This is one of the oldest Qashqa'i rugs I've seen. I would take a good guess that it dates to the first half 19th century - a rare find these days! Although in poor condition with wear and some old, poor re-weaves and re-woven ends, the rug has a wonderful archaic look to it that pre-dates the more 'commonly known' late 19th century Qashqa'i rugs. From the weave structure, I feel that it might have been made by the Bolvardi sub-tribe of the Qashqa'i Confederacy. Ignoring condition issues, this is a rare and highly collectable example of early Qashqa'i work and would make a beautiful wall-hanging.
Size: 1.62m x 1.10m (5' 4" x 3' 7").
Viewing by appointment only.
