This charming little rug was made by nomadic Afshars around 1870 in the region of Neiriz, southern Persia.
It is unusual in that both the warp and weft are cotton and the weaver has created the most amazing large brocaded flatweave panels at each end of the rug! The woollen pile is in excellent condition and incorporates in the indigo-blue field, horizontal lines of 'botehs' or pine-cones.
