Description
As illustrated in my book 'Tribal Rugs - Treasures of the Black Tent', I recently acquired this rug back from a private collection. It has a soft natural-dye colour palette with an aubergine field containing small stylised human representation up both sides, which I see as the symbolic depiction of fertility and birth. The wool is soft and lustrous and the rug is in very good condition with the remains of its flat-woven skirts at each end. Made by Baluch tribes on the borderlands of eastern Persia and western Afghanistan.
Size: 1.98m x 1.10m (6' 6" x 3' 7").
Viewing by appointment only.
Internal Ref: BM/SB
Dimensions
Height = 198 cm (78")
Width = 110 cm (44")
