Item Ref

This tiny little rug or mat was finely knotted in the town of Senneh in Persian Kurdistan during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. It comprises a field of 'botehs' - flame symbols which originated amongst the Zoarostrians in the Province of Kerman and then universally copied.
Weavers from the Kerman area went to Kashmir during the early twentieth century and introduced the 'boteh' to the Kashmiris who then reproduced the design in the famous Kashmir Shawl. The same 'boteh' again was used later in the shawls made in Paisley, Scotland.
This charming little rug is in excellent condition with the selvedges overbound in silk.
Size: 54cm x 35cm (1' 9" x 1' 2").
