antique prayerrug timuri tribes borderlands of eastern persia western afghanistan

Antique Prayer-Rug, Timuri Tribes, Borderlands of Eastern Persia / Western Afghanistan.

Item Ref

This is an exceptionally attractive 'namazlik' (prayer-rug) of the Timuri tribes with a natural camel-hair field containing two stylised 'trees-of-life' rising upwards from the underworld, through the earthly world and up to the world of the spirits - the nomadic belief of the '3-level' universe. I love the two hand-panels with their myriad of botehs and of course, the sides over-cast in blue and red as was done by the Timuri weavers.
Made in the borderlands area of eastern Persia and western Afghanistan during the third quarter of the nineteenth century, this is a very fine and highly collectible rug in very good condition.
