Antique Afshar Tribal Rug, Sirjan Area, Kerman Province, South Persia.

Item Ref

This small, square Afshar rug is incredibly cute and might have been made as a 'masnad' or a seating rug, which would have been brought out for the Khan or other important dignitaries to sit on when visiting this Afshar family. Masnads are rare and this beautiful and elegant rug would have been made circa 1870-1880 - no later. The indigo-blue field contains a multitude of stylised floral motifs and guarded by a floral ivory main border.
