Antique Baluch Rug, Bahluli Sub-Tribe, South-Eastern Persia.

What attracted me to this charming rug were the juxtaposition of the stunning vegetable colours. There is a subtle movement of colour throughout - a gorgeous pea-green and darker green appearing throughout as well as a small amount of sky-blue, shining out of the darkness.
Symmetrically knotted pile suggests a Bahluli - Baluch origin somewhere in south-eastern Persia and made circa 1860-1870. An ivory border frames the field containing a version of 'quincunx' or dice-fives - symbols of protection.
The rug is in good condition with low-cut pile and the remains of what were once, probably, slightly longer kilim skirts.
Size: 1.50m x 0.87m (5' 0" x 2' 10").
