This stunning kilim, with is fabulous abrash of madder-red and a field of 'swastika' type elements - pre-Islamic symbols for breaking evil down into four parts (rather ironically) - was made by Luri nomads in Luristan around the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
I believe its purpose was as a 'ru korssi' - a decorative cover over a wooden frame, under which were placed bowls of burning charcoal during the cold nights, and where the nomads could sit around the ru korssi and warm their toes under the decorative kilim covering.
Ru korssis like this large size are rare and now perfect as a beautiful floor covering.
Size: 2.34m x 1.50m (7' 8" 5' 0").
Viewing by appointment only.
