Once, part of a double saddlebag, this remaining knotted-pile face was made by Mushwani tribes in the Herat and Badghis regions of western Afghanistan at the end of the nineteenth century.
The Mushwani are a Persian-speaking people of Pashtun ancestry who inhabited the mountains of the Amu Darya river region and their weavings are regularly mistaken for Baluch.
The wool is soft and lustrous and this bagface is in very good condition.
