This fabulous contemporary rug, woven in soumak technique with tree highlights in knotted pile as well as the main border in knotted pile, was made by settled Baluch tribes in eastern Persia in the 1980s. All the colours are from vegetable dyes with few of these rugs made today, mainly due to the expense in preparing natural dyes and the time taken to make such fine pieces in soumak technique. This rug was sold by me in the 1980s and recently acquired back from the family that bought it back then. The design speaks for itself and when you view the close-up photos, notice the depiction of little stylised people, animals and birds throughout.
This is a special little rug which would make a fabulous wall-hanging in any house today.
Size: 1.45m x 1.00m (4' 9" x 3' 3").
