Description
The glowing indigo-blue ground of this beautiful little rug, contains a design normally found in the Perepidal region of the eastern Caucasus. But the wool quality and weave, confirms to me that it was knotted in Erivan in Armenia circa 1900-1920.The design comprises stylised dragon symbols, as can be seen oposing each other rising up the centre of the rug with the large central and side motifs, I believe, representing stylised eagles. The main border design is intricately knotted with stylised flowers.
