Description

This charming small vanity-bag (chanteh), is woven in soumak technique by Afshar nomads between 1900-1920 in Kerman Province, southern Persia.
The central field contains diagonal bands of small, square motifs in beautiful natural colours comprising, red, green, ivory and two shades of blue. Particularly attractive is the use of a lovely, vegetable-dye golden-yellow in the borders with the design the same on both front and back. The tassels are overbound in the same colours used in the weaving of the bag. It is complete and in excellent condition.
