The glowing madder-red field on this stunning rug comprises seven turkic 'guls' or tribal crests, possibly linked to Turkmen tribes who settled in this region of Kelardasht from the 11th century onwards. The main border with stylised flowers on a beautiful background of natural green, is magnificent and rare.
In excellent condition, this rug would have been made during the last quarter 19th century.
