Description

This charming old 'gabbeh' rug, made with vegetable dyes during the 1990s in Fars, south-west Iran, depicts the lion, a symbol of strength, power and virility.
The lion roamed the Zagros mountains in western Iran until the last carcas was found in the early 1950s.
Made under a vegetable-dye project amongst the Qashqa'i nomads in the 1980s/1990s, sadly this project, one of many, ended with the economic sanctions placed on Iran by western countries in the 2000s onwards.
This gabbeh is in full, lustrous pile and in great condition.
Size: 1.58m x 1.10m (5' 2" x 3' 7").
Viewing by appointment only.
Internal Ref: BM/Lion
