Description
This beautiful little vanity-bag (chanteh) has a brick-red ground covered in tiny flower motifs in glossy, knotted pile. The top opening lappits are in plain-weave with braided loop-ties in aubergine wool and white cotton. The back of the chanteh has horizontal bands of different colours.Made by Luri tribes in the vicinity of Kohkiluyeh, Luristan, western Persia at the end of the nineteenth century, the bag would have been prized by the nomad who made it and was likely to contain her mirror as well as some jewellery.
