Description
This very rare and beautiful little prayer rug was possibly made in the Aksaray area of central Anatolia and could date to the late 18th/early 19th century. It has wonderful, natural, saturated colours in a very simple design format. The madder-red field and golden-yellow mihrab are simply stunning. The rug has had some sympathetic restoration to small areas on each side and in part of the lower main border - carried out expertly in Turkey. To date, I have not been able to find anything published which is of similar type?
