Description

In this early Melas rug made at the beginning of the 19th century, we see the influence of the earlier and highly collectable so-called 'Transylvanian' rugs of the 17th and 18th centuries.
This early Melas rug from central Anatolia is spectacular and very rare. I love the depiction of cypress trees in the lower half of the red field and the powerful main border design - possibly zoomorphic!
