Description
This charming, small, square rug was made in the Bergama region of western Anatolia around the middle of the 19th century. It comprises a powerful large 'gul' on an ivory background in the centre and surrounded on either side by six '8-pointed' stars - symbols of spirituality and protection. This is a strongly visual rug with fabulous natural colours and would make a very striking wall-hanging. The knotted pile is evenly-low all over and the lower kilim skirt is missing, Otherwise it is in very good condition, bearing in mind its age!
