Description
A wonderful 19th century example of Canakkale weaving from the area around the Dardanelles in north-western Anatolia. Rug weaving in Canakkale is an ancient craft - some examples date from the 15th century. This rug has had some expert restoration and now in very good condition albeit with areas of slight wear in the field. It has glorious vegetable dyes throughout. Such rugs are often wrongly termed 'Bergama'.
