Private Collection just acquired.The 'ru korssi' was a flatweave cover made to decorate the top of the 'mangal' - a wooden frame in the centre of the tent, covered with blankets under which charcoal was burning and where the nomads would sit around with their feet tucked under the blankets, warming themselves.
This beautiful ru korssi was made around 1870-1880 by Bahluli Baluch tribes in southern Khorassan province, eastern Persia and has a plain-weave aubergine ground with symbols highlighted in magenta silk. The main border comprises a series of '8-pointed stars' symbolising protection in fine soumak-weave.
The ru korssi is in very good overall condition bar a minute stain just to the lower-right of the central symbol.
