Description

This is a beautiful example of a rare Turkmen group of weavings, namely the Igdyr tribe and made during the mid 19th century in the Aralo-Caspian steppes.
With a field of four vertical rows of five Igdyr 'guls' (tribal crests), the colours are just beautiful, with the use of light blue, pink cochineal as seen in the 'elem' or skirt and pale, golden-yellow.
The Igdyr Turkmen are mentioned in historical chronicles as an Oghuz tribe and appear to be affiliated to the Chowdur Turkmen as their constant companions in conflict and in shared life.
